The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has declared that he intends to tackle the country’s power and fuel supply issues directly, rather than dwell on complaints.
Speaking during an interview on Monday, May 19, 2025, Mr Jinapor clarified that he appeared before Parliament’s Energy Committee to present facts and propose solutions, not to express frustration.
“I know what grumbling looks like, and I didn’t grumble. I presented facts to the committee, unless, of course, people expected me to hide the truth,” he said.
Further, Mr Jinapor outlined actions his ministry has taken, including resolving a potential shutdown by Karpowership, expanding generation capacity, and launching structural reforms to stabilise the sector.
“Karpowership threatened to shut down, and we resolved the issue. That’s not grumbling; that’s solving problems, When we took office, the country was shedding 70 to 80 megawatts. We have since brought in several new plants. I presented all the data to the committee, outlined the challenges, and detailed how we’re addressing them.”
He made these remarks in response to criticism from some energy analysts and members of the public, including Walewale MP Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, who accused him of using fear tactics instead of showing effective leadership.
