“Don’t Compromise Your Values For Opportunities” – Gyakie

Written by MsBoye

Ghanaian singer Gyakie has urged aspiring female musicians to uphold their values and avoid compromising themselves in exchange for opportunities in the music industry.

Speaking in an interview cited by YADTV, Gyakie advised female artistes against engaging in intimate relationships with producers, managers or other industry professionals as a means of advancing their careers.

“My advice to female artists is, don’t settle for less, and don’t be sleeping with people that you work with. Don’t be doing that, whether it’s your producer, your manager, your team, your creative director, or anybody that you have a working relationship with.”

In addition, she acknowledged that genuine relationships can develop within the industry but stressed that artists should never feel compelled to exchange personal favours for professional opportunities, warning that such decisions could lead to future challenges.

“If your husband is your manager, it is a different situation. But the one where you have to do that to get a slot on stage or get a song produce for free, if that’s your mentality, you’re going to get into trouble in the future. If you have the talent, keep doing it. Don’t settle for less.”
