The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has disclosed that 75% of drivers operating on ride-hailing platforms in Ghana use fake driving licences.
In an interview on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Kotey revealed that the DVLA’s ride-hailing monitoring system had uncovered a high incidence of fraudulent licences among drivers on platforms such as Bolt, Uber and Yango.
“We have issues with ride-hailing drivers in Ghana. Our monitoring system indicates that 75% of the licences checked are all fake,” .
His revelation raises serious concerns about the authenticity of licences used by drivers in Ghana’s ride-hailing sector and the potential safety risks for passengers.
