The Executive Director of YADTV Media, Mr Frederick Boahene, popularly known as Paa Freddy, has called on authorities in the United States to intensify efforts to curb gun violence following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong in the Bronx, New York.
Speaking at a vigil held in honour of Javits, Paa Freddy urged authorities and the African community to shift their focus from racial issues and bullying to the growing problem of gun violence, which he identified as the central issue requiring urgent attention.
“We cannot overlook gun violence in schools. Fights do happen. New York and the United States as a whole must address the issue of gun violence. African Americans are not the problem. This is neither a race nor a bullying issue, but rather a gun violence issue,” he said.
Other individuals who attended the vigil in solidarity with Javits’ family also called on US authorities to intensify efforts to tackle gun violence, emphasising that every human life matters.
