“We’ll Stay On The Streets Until All Roads Are Clear”-Accra Mayor

Written by Yad Media

The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to restoring order in the Central Business District (CBD), emphasizing that the ongoing operation is not a temporary measure.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, May 20, after launching the initiative, Mayor Allotey stressed that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will sustain the campaign until it clears all unauthorised structures and removes street obstructions.

“This is not a one-off exercise—we’ll stay on the streets until we clear all the roads,” he said. “We’re not done. In the next hour, we’ll be back out. From here, we’re heading to Circle, and if we still have the energy, we’ll move on to Kaneshie. Then we’ll continue tomorrow.”

The AMA, in partnership with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA), launched the decongestion drive as part of a broader effort to ease congestion, enforce city by-laws, and improve sanitation in major parts of the capital.
