Ghanaian audio engineer and award-winning producer Master Garzy has asserted that true music producers must master every stage of the production process, not just beat-making.
In a recent interview, Master Garzy explained what it truly means to be a producer, emphasising that the role requires a deep understanding of multiple disciplines within music creation.
“Before you call yourself a producer, you must know how to produce—how to make beats, how to engineer audio, which includes proper recording as a recording engineer. You need to know how to mix, how to direct, how to write, and maybe even how to sing,” he said.
Further, Master Garzy highlighted his versatility as his greatest strength, noting that he has mastered every aspect of the production process—a skillset that, he believes, sets him apart.
“I was fortunate to learn all of these skills from the beginning, and that’s why I go by ‘Mix Master Garzy’, I encouraged up-and-coming producers to take their craft seriously and develop a comprehensive understanding of their role.” he said proudly.
