Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has confirmed that the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr Bossman Asare, has resigned, while the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, June 15, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said Dr Asare stated in his resignation letter that he was stepping down to return to academia and continue his work at the University of Ghana.

“Dr Asare expressed appreciation to the president and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve at the Electoral Commission. The process to replace the two officials is already underway, names of the nominees have been to the Council of State for consideration.”

In addition, he explained that the government will announce a replacement for Mr. Tettey after completing the review process. A separate process will then begin to fill the vacancy created by Dr. Asare’s resignation.
