Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that he plans to expose alleged high-level involvement in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the coming days.
Speaking during an interview cited by YADTV on Wednesday, April 29, Miracles Aboagye stated that individuals closely linked to the current administration are actively engaging in the illicit trade, raising fresh concerns about political complicity in the sector.
“My position is by firsthand observations. The scale of activity and the apparent lack of enforcement reflect a deeper systemic failure. I will, in the next few days, mention senior members, very top officials, who are close to this government and are actively operating in the galamsey space in this country. Our river bodies are dying; some are no longer flowing, and others have virtually come to a standstill, simply because of this government’s actions,” he said.
In addition, Miracles Aboagye also questioned how authorities are handling excavators imported into the country, alleging that they have failed to take decisive action.
“I dismiss claims that anyone is tracking the machines and insist that authorities released them back to operators without proper accountability. The environmental consequences are becoming increasingly dire,” he said.
