President John Mahama has announced that the government is expanding infrastructure in all senior high schools to increase intake capacity ahead of the phase-out of the double-track system by the end of 2027.
During a durbar in the Savannah Region on Friday, May 22. He said the government will construct new dormitory blocks, lecture halls, dining halls, and auditoriums to allow all students to return to the traditional academic calendar.
“In 2027, no senior high school will be doing double track. We’re reverting to the old system. Everybody will go to school at the same time to increase contact hours with the teachers. And so, we’re going to expand the infrastructure in our senior high schools,” President Mahama said.
He added, “We are investing in improving the quality of secondary education. And so the secondary schools that are considered category C, we’re going to invest in 30 of them to move them from category C to category B.”
President Mahama explained that ending the double-track system will increase contact hours between students and teachers, enhancing teaching and learning outcomes across the country.
