Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has announced that the government will commence the implementation of the National Decentralisation Policy and Strategic Framework for 2026 to 2030.
Addressing a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation to assess progress on the framework, she said the government’s immediate priority is to ensure the policy delivers improved public services and development programmes that directly address the needs of communities.
“The approval of the Framework is an important step. What matters now is its implementation. Decentralisation should bring governance and public services closer to the people and make development more responsive to the needs of communities across Ghana,” she said.
Further, Professor Jane stressed that achieving effective decentralisation would require stronger collaboration among critical sectors, including education, health, sanitation, infrastructure, finance and local government.
“The Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee exists precisely because successful decentralisation requires dialogue, coordination and collective action across government. Our task now is to translate the new framework into improved services in people’s lives,” she added.
