Nairobi, Kenya, will make history as the first African city to host the World Athletics Championships after securing the rights to stage the prestigious global athletics event in 2029.
The announcement followed a highly competitive bidding process, which World Athletics described as one of the strongest in the history of the championships.
Nairobi’s selection marks a major milestone for Kenya and African athletics, with the successful bid supported by the country’s growing experience in hosting major international sporting events.
The 2029 edition will be a historic occasion for athletes, fans and sports lovers across Africa as the continent prepares to host the world’s premier athletics competition for the first time.
The decision was announce on Tuesday, September 15, during the 242nd World Athletics Council Meeting in Budapest.
