“Accra Sports Stadium To Host 2027 AFCON Qualifiers”-CAF

Written by MsBoye

Ghana’s Accra Sports Stadium has received clearance from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host international matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The approval follows months of renovation and rehabilitation work by the National Sports Authority (NSA) to upgrade the facility to CAF’s required standards for international football.

Previously, the stadium had lost its CAF approval, forcing Ghana to use alternative venues for its home fixtures. Therefore, its reinstatement represents a major boost for the Black Stars, who can now return to playing competitive matches in Accra.

Meanwhile, Ghana will host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 27 in their opening home qualifier, three days after travelling to Côte d’Ivoire for their away fixture.

However, the stadium’s condition had come under scrutiny in recent years after it failed to meet CAF’s requirements, prompting Ghana to move some of its home matches to other venues.
