The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, has announced that the government will extend the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy to include private schools starting from the next academic year.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, May 27, Dr Apaak explained that the move aims to expand enrolment capacity and gradually eliminate the double-track system.
“As part of our campaign promise, we have worked diligently to integrate private senior high schools into the Free SHS programme,” he stated.
Under the revised guidelines, candidates preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will now be able to select seven schools, up from the previous six. The selection process runs from May 27 to June 6.”
Further, Dr Apaak emphasised that this step is a major milestone in fulfilling the government’s manifesto and a key strategy to phase out the double-track system.
