The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has announced that the institution is finalising a new agreement to establish one of the world’s largest gold refineries in Ghana.
Addressing members of the National House of Chiefs during a meeting in the Ashanti Region on Friday, May 29, he disclosed that the refinery will have a processing capacity of 600 tonnes, making it one of the largest in Africa and globally competitive in the gold refining industry.
“We’re in the process of signing a new agreement that will see to the establishment of what is going to be one of the biggest refineries in the world in Ghana. We will cut a sod for the establishment this year, 2026, and hope to complete it by next year, 2027. It’s going to be a 600-tonne-capacity refinery. It will refine all the gold we produce here in Ghana; it can also refine gold from Burkina Faso, Togo, and other places. The idea is to make Ghana a hub for gold refinery,” he stated.
Mr Gyamfi added that work on the project will begin later this year, with completion expected in 2027, as part of government efforts to position Ghana as a leading gold refinery hub in Africa.
