Parliament on Monday, July 7, 2025, adjourned its sitting to Tuesday, July 8, following the passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia.
Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin formally announced the news to the House, expressing deep sorrow and regret.
“The Minority Caucus had already reached out to the bereaved family and extended condolences to both the family and the constituents of the late MP.”
In solidarity, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga joined Afenyo-Markin in urging the First Deputy Speaker to suspend the day’s proceedings. He emphasised that the loss affected the entire House, not just the minority, and called for unity in mourning.
“We extend our condolences to them, our prayers are with them, and as a House, we stand with them in this moment of deep grief,” he said.
