Gov’t To Adopt National Sports Policy By Early 2026 — Kofi Adams

Written by Yad Media

Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has announced that Ghana will finalise and adopt its long-awaited National Sports Policy before the end of the first quarter of 2026.

Speaking during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting on Tuesday, November 4, Mr Adams responded to a question from the Committee’s Chair, Abena Osei Asare, explaining that the policy’s delay resulted from ongoing realignments within the Ministry, especially after the inclusion of recreation as a major part of its mandate.

“The policy remains in draft form only because we are realigning the Ministry’s focus. Recreation has now become a major priority, and we must incorporate it properly into the policy,” he said.

Mr Adams further revealed that President Mahama had directed the creation of a School Sports Agency to manage sports development in basic and secondary schools nationwide.

“The President has instructed us to set up a School Sports Agency that will take full responsibility for school sports. It will no longer depend solely on the Ghana Education Service, which sometimes sidelines sports due to time or funding constraints. The new agency will ensure consistent attention to school and grassroots sports,” he added.
