GoldBod Pushes Gold Licence Deadline To June 21, 2025

Written by Yad Media

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for transitioning to its new gold trading licence regime from May 21 to June 21, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, May 22, and signed by Media Relations Officer Prince Kwame Minkah, GoldBod confirmed that license holders previously accredited by the now-defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources can continue trading gold until the new deadline.

Further, GoldBod made it clear that starting June 21, 2025, only licences issued by the Board will be valid for buying, selling, or dealing in gold. It warned that using old licences beyond the deadline will constitute a punishable offence under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

“From May 22 onwards, only GoldBod, as a corporate entity, has the exclusive authority to export small-scale gold from Ghana, marking a major shift toward centralised control of gold exports.”
