Use Ghanaian Languages Only Up To Primary – Education Ministry

Written by Yad Media

The Ministry of Education has clarified that teachers should use Ghanaian languages as the medium of instruction only from kindergarten to primary three (lower primary), not across all basic school levels.

At the launch of the Foundational Learning Action Tracker on Monday, October 27, Deputy Education Minister Clement Apaak explained that the Ministry made this clarification to address the ongoing public discussions.

He stated,

“The Honourable Minister for Education has directed me to emphasise that the policy he announced on Friday making the use of mother tongue compulsory as a medium of instruction in public basic schools applies strictly to kindergarten through primary three. In other words, it covers only KG and Lower Primary.”

This statement came after Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu directed schools to make Ghanaian languages compulsory for instruction.
