Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has assured Ghanaians that the recent reversal of US visa restrictions poses no threat to the nation’s sovereignty or security.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Ablakwa dismissed what he called “an avalanche of conspiracy theories and scaremongers” circulating after the announcement.
“Since Ghana became the only country under US visa restrictions to secure a reversal from the Trump Administration, conspiracy theories have flooded public discourse,” he wrote. “May I respectfully ask that you ignore the conspiracy theorists and scaremongers?”
Ablakwa issued the clarification just two days after Ghana secured a major diplomatic victory on Friday, September 26, when the United States officially lifted visa sanctions imposed on the country in July.
Following the reversal, Ghanaians can now apply for five-year multiple-entry visas and enjoy enhanced consular services.
