“Two Ghanaian Detainees In Ukraine Are Alive And Well”-Okudzeto

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that two Ghanaian nationals held as prisoners of war in Ukraine are alive and in good condition following a visit.

The minister reveal in a post on X that Ukrainian authorities gave special access to the detention camp where the two Ghanaians are detain.

“I can confirm that our citizens are alive and well.Ukrainian authorities have taken their rights under international law into consideration.

Mr Ablakwa added that the detainees, whose identities remain undisclosed for security reasons, expressed a strong resolve to campaign against human trafficking after their release.

“They have indicated their willingness to dedicate themselves to educating vulnerable Africans on the dangers and deceptive tactics used by trafficking syndicates to lure individuals into conflict zones,” he said.

The Foreign Affairs Minister said the visit underscores the strong bilateral relations between Ghana and Ukraine and thanked Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, for approving his request.
