TV Stations Favor Foreign Shows Over Local Film-Selassie Ibrahim

Written by Yad Media

Ghanaian actress and film producer Selassie Ibrahim has criticized local TV stations for favoring cheap foreign content over investing in quality Ghanaian productions.

In an interview, Ibrahim argued that this preference for low-cost imports is making the business model for domestic filmmakers increasingly unsustainable.

“Look, the TV channels are not helping us. I’ll say it again. I don’t care what they think or say. I’ve said it before and faced backlash, but I’ll keep speaking out until they support us.”

“You create content and send it to TV channels; they’ll look at you and offer GH₵1,000, even though I spent over $20,000 to $30,000. This pricing structure makes it almost impossible for producers to recoup their investments, contributing to the current slowdown in the local film industry”. Selassie explained.
