Former Ghana Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has asserted that the national football team will progress beyond the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking in New York at the unveiling of Ghana’s World Cup kit by PUMA, Gyan acknowledged the strength of the England national football team but insisted he remains confident in the Black Stars.
“You know, people are optimistic about that game. To play against England. I’m not thinking about playing England. I just want Ghana to qualify from the group stage to go to the next stage of the competition, so we’ll see what happens. But Ghana against England is going to be a very, very good game,” he said.
The team will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
