President Mahama has announced the launch of a new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers, set to commence in the 2026/2027 academic year.
At a press briefing on Monday, 4th August 2025, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson unveiled the initiative alongside a new producer price for cocoa.
He stated that the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) will develop and roll out the scholarship scheme during the 2025/2026 cocoa season as part of government efforts to enhance the welfare of cocoa farmers.
Dr Forson further noted that COCOBOD will establish the necessary structures and guidelines to ensure the scheme’s full implementation by the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
The announcement came as part of a major policy update, which also saw the government raise the cocoa producer price from US$3,100 to a historic US$5,040 per tonne for the 2025/2026 season.
