Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has reported that the Akwatia by-election is running without incident and could serve as a blueprint for organizing future elections in Ghana.
In a video report by Citi News, the IGP, who is personally monitoring security operations on the ground, commended both security personnel and voters for maintaining a peaceful and orderly environment.
“Everything is proceeding as planned, and that’s exactly what we aim for to ensure the election is peaceful and runs without issues,” Yohuno said.
Further, the IGP highlighted the active involvement of all regional commanders and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), who are working alongside frontline officers to maintain order at polling stations.
“I’m very pleased with how my officers are handling things,” he added. “This election has all regional commanders and POMAB members physically present and working in the field. Everything is going smoothly.”
The death of the sitting Member of Parliament triggered the Akwatia by-election, which takes place across 119 polling stations and involves over 50,000 registered voters.
