The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo, working with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the leader of the operation, Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, has led a major demolition exercise around the Kpeeshie Lagoon in Accra.
Addressing the media, Madam Ocloo said the exercise is part of a wider effort by the various municipal assemblies to address persistent flooding problems in the Ledzokuku and La Dadekotopon areas.
She explained that
“Unauthorized structures along the lagoon have reduced its capacity to hold excess rainwater, so authorities must remove them to restore the natural flow of water. Officials will carry out similar demolition exercises in other flood-prone areas where illegal developments have encroached on waterways.”
