Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh announced that President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the extension of the government’s dialysis subsidy to private health facilities.
Speaking at the inauguration of a 13-member governing board for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as “Mahama Cares”, Akandoh revealed that the government will pay GH₵500 per dialysis session at private health centres.
“The current subsidy covers up to GH₵500 per session in public hospitals, but many patients also seek dialysis in private facilities. Since people depend on private centres too, the President has directed us to extend the same financial support to them,” Akandoh said.
The fund aims to support the treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases across the country.
