Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, fellow footballer Andre Silva, have died in a horrific car crash after their Lamborghini veered off the road and burst into flames in northern Spain.
According to reports, the crash occurred on the A-52 highway in the Zamora province, near the municipality of Cernadilla. Emergency services received multiple calls around the incident, with witnesses reporting that the vehicle had caught fire after leaving the road. Preliminary investigations suggest the Lamborghini’s tyre may have blown out while overtaking, causing the car to crash before erupting in flames.
The 1-1-2 Castilla y León emergency operations centre quickly alerted the Zamora Traffic Police, the Provincial Fire Brigade, and the Emergency Medical Services. A medical emergency unit and a team from the Mombuey Health Centre responded but sadly confirmed the deaths of both occupants at the scene.
Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football Federation, confirmed the brothers’ passing, describing it as a devastating loss to the football community.
The tragedy comes just two weeks after Diogo Jota married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso, in a ceremony held in Porto.
