Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur has raised concerns about series of intimidation and exploitation by his former record label, Ground Up Chale, in a social media post.
In the post, the award-winning artist alleged that the label has subjected him to constant threats and manipulation aimed at stopping him from releasing music independently.
“The label is demanding $150,000 from me for using images of myself in a new independent project, despite no longer being an allied of the company. If anything happens to me, key figures at Ground Up Chale, including co-founder Glen Boateng, should be deem responsible. Ground Up Chale has claimed ownership of my image, music, and all creative works associated with me from 2016 to date. I have not worked with the label since the release of the Son of Jacob album and have had no formal affiliation with the company for several years.”
