Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of showing no real commitment to passing Ghana’s Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.
In an interview, the former Information Minister said the NDC has confused the public and religious leaders by sending inconsistent and misleading messages about its stance on the bill, despite previously claiming to support it.
“The NDC first tells the public the bill has already been pass and is only awaiting presidential assent, but then turns around in Parliament to argue that lawmakers still need to pass it into law.”
He further said the party’s conduct in Parliament demonstrates a lack of seriousness about ensuring the bill’s passage.
“when Ntim Fordjour and other leaders place the bill on the order paper, they later withdraw it because they do not want it passed. the NDC has merely politicised the issue and has shown no genuine commitment to seeing the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill passed.”
