Founder of the prestigious GUBA Awards, Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE, has revealed that she sold her first car and relied on other personal resources to fund the early stages of the GUBA initiative.
In a recent interview, Dentaa opened up about the financial challenges she faced when launching the awards, which aim to promote the Pan-African agenda and celebrate African creatives.
“I started without any sponsors. Sold my first car and other assets to raise more capital because I didn’t have enough to survive. I created the GUBA Awards to recognize African achievers, originally focusing on Ghanaian talent in the UK. Taking the first step was the hardest part, convincing people to believe in my mission.”
