Nigerian media personality Stephanie Coker Aderinokun has revealed that she once contemplated suicide after spending nearly $40,000 on a failed in vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedure.
Speaking during an interview, Stephanie described the emotional and financial toll her fertility journey took on her, saying the heartbreak of a failed IVF cycle pushed her to a breaking point.
“I invested close to $40,000. After the first cycle, I got pregnant, but the second cycle failed. I remember thinking I just wanted to step in front of a moving car,” she said.
Further, she revealed that she had travelled to Los Angeles for the procedure, but a phone call from a nurse delivering the devastating news left her crushed.
“I felt completely worthless. I kept asking myself how I was going to return to Lagos without a baby. When the nurse said, ‘Hi Stephanie, I’m sorry to give you this bad news,’ I couldn’t process it. I had put in all that time, money, and hope — and still had no child.”
