The High Court in Accra has rejected a request for adjournment from Nutifafa Nutsukpui, newly appointed lawyer for Mildred Donkor, the third accused in the ongoing GH¢49 million theft case involving the National Signals Bureau (NSB).
Appearing in court for the first time, Mr. Nutsukpui requested a brief adjournment, explaining that Ms Donkor had only formally engaged his services the night before and had submitted incomplete documents late in the evening.
Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai opposed the request, arguing that the accused deliberately hires a lawyer and should not use it as a tactic to stall the trial. Emphazing that the motion in question did not directly involve Donkor but stemmed from a disclosure request by other accused persons.
“If the accused were illiterate, I would have granted the request.“But in this case, the court reasonably expected her to apprise her lawyer of all pending processes,” the judge ruled.
The case involves former NSB Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, Mildred Donkor, and a fourth accused, who are standing trial for allegedly stealing GH¢49 million in public funds and using the proceeds to acquire properties.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 31, 2025.
