The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed all public teaching hospitals to immediately operate their outpatient departments, laboratories, and diagnostic centers on a 24-hour basis.
Speaking during a sector-wide management retreat, the minister instructed the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority (HeFRA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to fast-track the full accreditation of the Sunyani Regional Hospital as a teaching hospital to expand access to specialized healthcare in line with the president’s 24-hour health service policy.
“The Sunyani Regional Hospital should be regard as a teaching hospital in all regulatory and accreditation processes. He reiterated that all teaching hospitals must urgently implement 24-hour OPD, laboratory, and diagnostic services as part of the government’s commitment to round-the-clock healthcare delivery.” He said,
The Health Minister further highlighted that the government’s health sector priorities focus on key reforms and targeted interventions aimed at improving access, enhancing coordination, and strengthening service delivery across the country.
