President John Mahama has announced that Ghana’s economy has surpassed the $100 billion mark for the first time during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament.
In his address, he described the economic progress as broad-based and comprehensive, emphasizing that all sectors recorded remarkable improvements within his first year in office.
“This milestone will place the country among Africa’s largest economies.”He said
In addition, the president also highlighted the government’s success in stabilizing the national currency, noting that the cedi appreciated by 40.7% against the US dollar, 30.9% against the British pound, and 24% against the euro.
“We did not just arrest currency instability; we strengthened the cedi to compete effectively against other currencies,” he added.
