President John Mahama has announced that Ghana is the first African nation to make a financial contribution to the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) in France.
Speaking at the High-Level International Conference on Information Integrity and Independent Media on October 29, 2025, in Paris, President Mahama said the move reflects Ghana’s firm belief that independent journalism and reliable information are indispensable public goods.
“Global leaders must move beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps to support public interest media. Win the global war against misinformation and disinformation.”
In addition, President Mahama revealed that Ghana will become a full member of the Partnership for Information and Democracy, a step that reaffirms the country’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and open governance.
