Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has announced that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) will increase its allocation to the Students Loan Trust Fund from GH¢70 million to GH¢150 million in 2025.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘No Fees Stress’ policy on Friday, July 4, the minister described the move as a significant step toward enhancing financial support for tertiary students.
“Next year, the GETFund will double its allocation to the Students Loan Trust from GH¢70 million to GH¢150 million to support students who may want to access it further,” he stated.
Beyond the funding boost, Mr. Iddrisu revealed that the government is working to reform the scholarship system to promote fairness and transparency.
“In line with one of your campaign promises, I will lay before Parliament the Scholarship Authority Bill next week to address the nepotism and cronyism previously associated with scholarship awards,” he said, adding that the initiative is part of broader efforts to ease the financial burden on students pursuing higher education.
