The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has urged Ghanaians to embrace fugu and kente as unifying national symbols, rather than viewing them through a tribal lens.
During a media engagement, the minister highlighted that both fugu and kente are recognized by UNESCO as heritage products that reflect Ghana’s collective identity.
“It is not about tribe or language. It is about Ghana. These fugu and kente, listed on UNESCO heritage sites and offered to the world, should rally us around the red, gold, green, and black star. It is not about any particular tribe. It is about what identifies us as Ghanaians. I thank all who embraced the idea and wore fugu on Wednesday. Next Wednesday, let’s make it even bigger,” she said.
In addition, she also explained that the ‘Fugu Wednesday’ campaign aims to sustain growing enthusiasm for the fabric.
