Nigerian singer Davido, privately known as David Adeleke, says he is shifting focus to unapologetically African music as he reconnects with his roots, moving away from Western influences aimed at global appeal.
Speaking in an interview, Davido reflected on his journey in the music industry and outlined what fans should expect in the next phase of his career.
“I have achieved so much in this career. Performing across the world and receiving accolades, including back-to-back multiple Grammy nominations in the last three years. I am content with my achievements and now want to return to my roots by making unapologetic African music, rather than incorporating Western sounds to appeal to international audiences. I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, and I have been to three Grammys in the last three years.”
He added that his upcoming project will strongly reflect his renewed artistic direction. “There is music that is coming next, which is more African.”
