The office of Mahamudu Bawumia confirmed that the former Vice President and his wife, Samira Bawumia, are safe and in good health in Mecca, dismissing reports that authorities had evacuated them from Doha.
According to Dr Bawumia spokesperson during an interview, he revealed
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, are safe and well. Their trip forms part of a planned religious pilgrimage. They left Doha on Wednesday for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage that people can undertake at any time of the year.”
The office issued the clarification to address public concern after media reports linked the couple’s departure from Qatar to rising tensions in the Middle East.
