Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced an increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season, raising it from GH¢3,278.75 to GH¢3,625 per 64 kg bag.
Dr. Forson, speaking at a meeting of the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), revealed that the government raised the price to keep Ghana’s farm gate cocoa price competitive, especially after Ivory Coast increased its own on Wednesday, October 1.
“The new rate translates to GH¢58,000 per tonne,” he said. “You may recall that on August 4, 2025, the government set the 2024/2025 cocoa producer price at GH¢3,278.75 per bag or GH¢51,660 per tonne—equivalent to about $5,040 per tonne and 70% of the gross Free-On-Board (FOB) price. That figure was based on projected global market prices and exchange rate trends.”
Further, he noted that recent developments prompted a price review.
“Following consultations with stakeholders, the new price will take effect on Friday, October 3, 2025. The revised rate means cocoa farmers will now earn GH¢400 more per bag. This is the second time the government has adjusted the cocoa price since taking office in January 2025.”
