Former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, has called for the creation of a pan-African media powerhouse to foster unity across the continent and reshape the global perception of Africa.
Speaking at the Broadcasting at the Crossroads forum, organised by the Africa Media Bureau in Accra on Friday, September 26, Kufuor underscored the urgent need for Africans to take control of their own narrative, one that accurately reflects the continent’s identity, challenges, and immense potential.
“If media professionals can come together to establish a strong, truly African media agency right here in Accra that tells African stories beyond politics, covering economics, society, entertainment, trade, and industry, I believe we would begin to see real change,” he said. “Soon, Africans in Nigeria, Nairobi, or South Africa would begin to thrive in a new way.”
“External media largely portray Africa, and many people on the continent still consume narratives that originate outside Africa.” He said
