The United States Embassy in Ghana announced that it issued about 25,000 visas to Ghanaians in 2024 out of 61,000 applications.
At the Embassy’s Consular Media Day on Friday, May 9, 2025, U.S. Consular General Elliot Fertik reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to providing a transparent, efficient, and stress-free visa process.
“We welcome Ghanaians who want to study, invest, or do business in the U.S.,” he said. “Last year, we issued 25,000 visas for work, study, or travel, but all applicants must obey U.S. laws.”
Fertik stressed the U.S. government’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal immigration and warned prospective travellers against using fraudulent means to enter the country.
“The United States doesn’t tolerate illegal immigration,” he said. “If you break the rules, we may deny your visa or ban you permanently.”
He urged Ghanaians to follow proper visa procedures and understand their obligations throughout the process.
The embassy organised the media event to clarify the U.S. visa application process, highlight service improvements, and explain current visa policies.
